Wool felt urns

Wool felt is a natural and sustainable material made from 100% sheep’s wool. Thanks to the natural structure of wool fibres, the felting process produces a sturdy yet supple material that is fully biodegradable. This makes wool felt an environmentally friendly choice for products that should remain close to nature, such as urns. It feels soft, warm and pleasant to the touch, qualities that give the material a comforting character.
Our wool felt comes from Nepal, where the tradition of felting has been passed down for generations. In local workshops, artisans (mostly women) work with great skill and care to felt the wool. The craftsmanship, culture and natural origin of the wool come together in a material that radiates warmth, purity and softness. Read more here.

Handmade in Nepal

Each urn is handmade by experienced Nepalese artisans. The process is entirely traditional and requires great care, concentration and attention to detail. The loose wool is first carefully weighed, laid in layers in the shape of the urn and covered with a fine mesh. Using warm liquid, soap and manual pressure, the fibres are then felted: the natural scales of the wool interlock to form a sturdy, seamless fabric.
This fabric is folded around a mould of the urn, after which the back is made in the same way and fused with the front. The result is a soft, pure urn without seams or hard edges.
The urns are made under Fair Trade conditions: with fair wages, good working conditions and respect for people and nature. By working with a small Nepalese workshop specialising in felted products, we support local employment and centuries-old craftsmanship.
