Yes, all our urns are permitted at almost all (natural) cemeteries in the Netherlands, with the exception of the natural cemeteries managed by Staatsbosbeheer. In Germany, too, our urns are permitted at all natural cemeteries (Friedwald, Ruheforst); see also the website: allenatuurbegraafplaatsen.nl or contact us for more information!

Mulberry paper urns are not suitable for an urn wall.

The urns are made in small, traditional workshops in Asia, specifically in Thailand. The products are mostly made by women, and certainly not by children! We visit our producers every year, so we know exactly where they come from.

We design the urns ourselves and, in consultation with the manufacturer, we determine what is possible and feasible in terms of (handcrafted) production. As we work exclusively with manufacturers and source our products directly from them, we are able to offer the urns at a fair price.

Wool felt is made from 100% sheep’s wool. But how is it turned into an urn? Well, the loose wool is weighed, placed in the shape of the urn and covered with a thin gauze. It is then ‘felted’ using liquid soap: the wool takes on a solid form through pressure and the soap, the scales of the wool interlock: a fabric is created. The wool is folded around the die-cut mould of the urn, and the back of the urn is then made in the same way, using soap and pressure…

Our mango wood urns are handcrafted in Thailand by experienced woodworkers who know the material inside out. Each piece of wood is carefully selected for its colour, grain and quality, before being turned and shaped using traditional tools. Once shaped, the urn is sanded by hand and finished with a natural oil or wax.

In northern Thailand grows a remarkable tree: the mulberry tree. What makes it special is that, after the rainy season, the bark can be easily peeled away, after which it immediately grows back. This characteristic was discovered hundreds of years ago by the Karen tribe, who live in the far north of Thailand. The leaves of the mulberry tree provide food for silkworms, and the bark forms the basis for mulberry paper. The tree grows in the wild, but is also planted for the production of this beautiful paper.

The average amount of ashes produced following the cremation of an adult is approximately 3 to 3.5 litres. This amount depends, among other things, on the height and weight of the deceased, as well as their bone structure; whether a coffin or bier was used; the type of wood and size of the coffin; and so on.

It is best to contact your funeral director or crematorium to enquire about the exact amount of ashes.
